Firstly... I decided to race in the Euphoria Golf Estate Triathlon in the Limpopo province yesterday. This was an olympic distance race and was really about getting some solid training done in a race environment. I am still trying to find my form after the bad bout of flu I had a few weeks ago so the race was really about 'tempo' training. The day started off not too early and left the house at 7am to get to the venue at 9.30am... race was starting at 11am which actually meant racing in the h... Continue reading ...

I have had a tricky 2 weeks- the Monday prior to my departure (wed) for
Hungary I woke with fever and flu symptoms. I then took Mon and Tues
easy and by Wed am was in a state as to what to do as was due to fly out
that evening. I spoke with the director of ITU development (whom had
funded my trip) and they assured me that whatever I decide the ITU will
be behind me. On the wed i was now coughing and still had the fever so
went to the doc. After an ecg, chest x ray and blood tests, the d... Continue reading ...
I have just under a week to the Tizi World Cup in Hungary which starts at 1330 on Sunday. Training has gone well to date and look forward to racing at a top level again. I am a little concerned that temps in JHB have been mid teens, where Hungary is up at 30 deg.
I must thank the ITU for giving me this opportunity to compete overseas..
I have been fortunate to be given a spot on Team ITU for the Tiszaujvaros World Cup on 8 August. This is a great opportunity to earn ITU points and am grateful to the ITU for this opportunity.

June has started off well training wise- over the sickness and now focusing on races overseas in Aug. This last week has been freezing, with this am starting off the sat am bike ride in -1. I have changed training slightly in that am now swimming with Peter Williams' squad on Tues and Thurs at Randburg VA. It does make a difference having either Peter or Francois on pool deck giving orders and making sure you get the times. This last week I raced in the Fountains Cycle race, a 96km, 2 lap rou... The two weeks after competing in Durban at the All Africa Champs my training had been going well. I then started battling with a sore throat and the usual aches that usually precedes a bout of flu. Unfortunately I woke up about 8 days ago with this and after 3-4 days the aches subsided but the 'extra's' that come with a cold have been hassling me since. Despite dosing myself with all the immune boosting vitamins that I know, I havent managed to shake it, which resulted in a visit to the doc y... Continue reading ...
What a weekend! Driving down with Nikki on the Friday prior to the race, we hit Natal in the late afternoon, staying with distant relatives in Sheffield Beach, Mike and Mary Graham. Sat was spent relaxing and going over the course. The race was on Sunday 1330hrs and the wind was blowing roughly at 19km/hr, at least less than the day before. The sea had quite a chop and to make matters slightly more interesting, the blue bottle brigade was out in full force!
The final of the JHB City Triseries was held a little over 2 weeks ago. I was finally able to test my fitness after battling with a few medical situations. The swim went well, coming out the water with Sander and Hendrik. Onto the non drafting 40km bike leg and I dropped back from the front two a bit- partly due to a lack of bike fitness and lack of TT bike. The run went better with posting my PB 10km to date at 33.15- showing that the consistent track and other run speed sessions are paying ... Continue reading ...

The last month has been a bit tiresome with a slow recovery from the operation and 2 courses of antibiotics. I was able to compete in an off-road event, the Sasol Cross Off road tri, which won, ahead of two Jeep team members, which was very happy about- a future in off-road triathlons?- let us see!
I am now building back up again with the JHB Triseries final ahead on 11 April and then it is the All Africa Champs on 8 May!

This last weekend saw the final of the BSG Energade series and unfortunately it was a continuation of the previous two races' results. A 10th was the result of pushing too hard in the swim, off the pace in the bike and suffering on the run.. anyway, my body was/is incredibly tired. I have taken the last few days off training to see if can recoup for this Sunday's OD in Germiston- the start of the JHB City Triseres. Continue reading ...

The last two weeks the BSG Elite Triathlon team travelled to Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. As you have read already, the positions werent too hot, however, there has also been a step up in competition. I have also finally realised that am not suited to flying down the afternoon before the race at sea level, and rather need two days to acclimatise from altitude. Minor I know, but perhaps the reason. Bio Rythyms! Anyway, two races, two weekends left... Myself and Sander Berk with our BSG Elite T... Continue reading ...

Sunday the 15th November saw about 20 athletes start at the first of the African Cup races this year. The bike course was brutal, including 5 x 3km hill climbs and then the run in +30 deg heat finished it off. After some jostling of places on the bike, I eventually came off with Hendrik de Villiers and Wikus Weber. Onto the run, I managed to stay with Hendrik for about 6km's before getting dropped. Nonetheless I finished in 4th, picking up some valuable ITU points, making my ranking 97th to d... Continue reading ...

The fourth stage of the BSG/Energade
Triseries was held in blustery conditions at Germiston Lake
on Sunday 8th November. The wind created a few ‘white horses’ for
the athletes to contend with in the water and on the bike leg, the athletes’
strength was certainly tested with the invisible ‘wall’ that is the wind
howling at 40km/hr at you.

The start of the BSG/Energade Triseries has kicked off, as competitive and as fast as ever! The first race, at Midmar dam, was down literally to the last 1.5km's of the run.. with me finishing 5th, 30secs behind the winner. The week after took us to the North West, Potchefstroom, and here, 4th was the order of the day.
